The Rocks grew from an open-air gaol into a vibrant port community. Its colourful history is filled with tales of shanghaied sailors through secret tunnels, rough press gangs, and gritty life can still be traced in the many surviving buildings from the last two centuries. But today the renovated warehouses, sailors' homes, and dens of iniquity; now house a unique mixture of fine restaurants, souvenir and craft shops, opal shops and art galleries.  

The Rocks is a unique area, a place where you can explore the cobblestone alleys with its abundant shops and eat in restaurants located in some of the oldest surviving buildings in Sydney. The area is abundant with pubs and boutique shops.  

The Rocks has the biggest concentration of historic buildings in Sydney.  

Travel under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and around some of Sydney’s oldest pubs.
